KRILLMAT
About us
REKRILL® is a patented, bio-based and compostable biopolymer developed by Krill Design to give packaging brands a real, measurable edge, while remaining a versatile material solution for a wide range of industrial applications. Its goal is to deliver a plastic-free and sustainable material engineered to match the performance of oil-based plastics, without their environmental impact. Supplied in granules and compatible with standard manufacturing technologies such as injection molding, extrusion and thermoforming, REKRILL® runs on existing production lines without compromising performance or scalability. Behind the material is an Italian industrial company with an active production plant and an in-house R&D and quality control laboratory, focused on delivering solutions that are scalable, reliable and ready for real-world packaging applications.
REKRILL® was developed with a clear objective: to offer brands and manufacturers a material that combines technical performance, process compatibility and strong differentiation. Its formulation flexibility allows it to be adapted to different use cases and functional requirements, making it suitable for multiple sectors while meeting the specific constraints of packaging applications.
Sustainability is not treated as an added feature, but as a structural property of the material. Compared to oil-based plastics, REKRILL® can deliver up to 67% lower CO₂ emissions per kilogram of material produced. Just 10 tons of REKRILL® achieve the same CO₂ reduction impact as one hectare of bamboo forest, turning material choice into a concrete and measurable environmental action. End-of-life is a core design parameter: REKRILL® is 100% microplastic-free and fully compostable in marine environments, designed to disappear without trace and leave no harmful residues behind. This directly addresses one of the most critical challenges facing materials today: persistence in natural ecosystems.
Beyond sustainability, REKRILL® delivers industrial reliability. It offers mechanical performance, process stability and consistency, while its natural textures and finishes give products a distinctive, material-driven identity. Sustainability becomes visible, tangible and recognisable; an increasingly relevant differentiator in contemporary packaging.
With an active industrial facility and an internal laboratory in Italy, Krill Design maintains direct control over quality, repeatability and performance, supporting long-term adoption at scale.

REKRILL® ORANGE
What else can an orange become? REKRILL® Orange is a bio-based composite material developed by Krill Design that transforms residues from orange processing into a new, functional material for packaging and design applications. Instead of using fresh raw resources, REKRILL® Orange is created by combining orange-derived components recovered from industrial production with proprietary bio-based polymer bases. This approach extends the life of natural materials and embeds circularity directly into the structure of the material. The entire development and production process is carried out in Italy, ensuring traceability, quality control and industrial reliability. REKRILL® Orange is 100% bio-based, compostable and recyclable. Its formulation is modular, allowing different bio-based polymer bases to be selected according to technical needs, while the orange component contributes to both performance and material identity. The material is fully compatible with existing manufacturing technologies, including injection molding, extrusion and thermoforming, and can be processed on standard production lines without modifications. REKRILL® Orange features natural, tactile finishes that reflect its origin and give products a warm, authentic appearance. At the same time, it offers broad freedom in color development, with virtually no limits, while maintaining a coherent, material-driven aesthetic. By giving new value to existing materials and reducing reliance on fossil-based plastics, REKRILL® Orange helps shape products with a lighter environmental footprint within a scalable circular model.

REKRILL® BRAN
Is bran really the end of the story? REKRILL® Bran is a bio-based composite material developed by Krill Design that transforms residues generated during cereal processing, such as bran, into a functional material for packaging and design applications. Instead of using fresh raw resources, REKRILL® Bran is created by combining bran-derived components recovered after milling processes with proprietary bio-based polymer bases. This approach extends the value of existing materials and embeds circularity directly into the structure of the material. The entire development and production process is carried out in Italy, ensuring traceability, quality control and industrial reliability. REKRILL® Bran is 100% bio-based, compostable and recyclable. Its formulation is modular, allowing different bio-based polymer bases to be selected according to technical needs, while the bran component contributes to both performance and material identity. The material is fully compatible with existing manufacturing technologies, including injection molding, extrusion and thermoforming, and can be processed on standard production lines without modifications. REKRILL® Bran features natural, tactile finishes and offers broad freedom in color development.
