“Magnet free Solutions”, Valtenna’s project for Avant Garde 2023

Valtenna’s project was born in response to the need for eliminating magnets from packaging

Simplicity, sustainability, and versatility. Our Magnet free Solutions project was born in response to the need for eliminating magnets from packaging, which are difficult to separate during material recovery phase at the end of the product cycle.

We have worked on material thickness and flexibility and used advanced techniques to create customizable interlocking representing an alternative to magnets. These solutions have enabled us to improve the disposal at the end-of-life cycle but also to create a mono-material packaging with a low environmental impact.

Our project suggests a subtractive approach to packaging design. As valuable aspects of the good project we have the constant research of simple solutions.

Less is more – used to say Mies van Der Rohe to encourage the research for essential elements and for a rationalistic approach to design.

For years we have been developing internal research projects to provide customers with packaging solutions with a reduced environmental impact. This is an open and continuous project, which is integrated from time to time with new solutions and new environmental benefits:

  • LightCore is the technology developed by Valtenna to produce rigid coated packaging with more than 30% reduction of weight and material
  • Foldable LightCore is the use of the same technology in the production of collapsible packaging, resulting in about 90% reduction in storage and shipping volumes
  • Magnet Free is the system of joints allowing to close packaging through different solutions with no need of magnets or other materials that could be difficult to separate during disposal at the end of cycle.

 

In addition to the technical value of this innovative process, we have persisted for years in providing new models of thinking about environmental sustainability trying to encourage the growth of an ethical demand from our customers.
