Francesco Poroli designs the official illustration of Packaging Première & PCD Milan 2023

Every year, an artist is selected to create the star illustration of Packaging Première & PCD Milan. For the 2023 edition of the selective event for luxury packaging, cosmetics and perfumery, Francesco Poroli has created an illustration that encapsulates all the elements that will mark this edition of the event.  
The illustration that will be the protagonist of the 2023 edition of Packaging Première & PCD Milan is a work created ad hoc for the event by the well-known illustrator and art director Francesco Poroli, whose creations have appeared in prestigious publications and who regularly collaborates with top Italian and international brands. The collaboration between the artist and Packaging Première & PCD Milano 2023 began in 2021, when the event’s organization contacted the artist who, at the time, had been involved by Barilla in the “Grani D’Autore” project. After several studies and projects, Poroli succeeded in encapsulating in an illustration all the elements that will mark the 2023 edition of the packaging event for the luxury, cosmetics and perfumery sectors.
What inspired you to create the illustration for the 2023 event?
The ideas I worked on to create the image are numerous. I wanted to tell the story of the event by trying to keep packaging, Milan and sustainability together. That is why in the image there are direct references to our city and many vegetable elements: everything wrapped up with a pink ribbon that picks up on the colours of Packaging Première and somehow ties the elements together. In addition I wanted there to be a human element: the protagonists of my image are the people who finally meet and get to know each other again.
What is your connection to the world of packaging?
I believe that a good image can make a difference in whatever medium it is used. In this sense, packaging that chooses the right illustration to communicate the values of its product tells its story in the best possible way. The project I would mention in this regard is recent (October 2022) and is the packaging project I signed for the CULTI Milano x Lamborghini collection. I created a limited edition graphic of the diffuser and its packaging, trying to simultaneously tell two stories as apparently distant as those of the two brands involved.
Francesco Poroli’s illustration will welcome exhibitors and visitors at the entrance of the selective event for luxury packaging, cosmetics and perfumery from 16 to 18 May 2023 at Fieramilanocity, Milan.
Meet Francesco Poroli
Francesco Poroli was born and lives in Milan. Since 2000 he has been working as illustrator and art director freelance. His clients’ list include The New York Times Magazine, Wired, GQ, Facebook, Campari, Apple, NBA, Barilla and Lamborghini – among others. In 2017 he published “Like Kobe – Il Mamba spiegato ai miei figli” for Baldini&Castoldi. His works have been awarded by Society of Illustrators New York, Communication Arts and The Society of Publication Designers. He is the artistic director of Illustri Festival, TEDx speaker, Maestro at Scuola Holden and teaches in IED Milano and Domus Academy.   www.francescoporoli.com @francescoporoli
