CadicaGroup & Giorgi enter the Avant-Garde with Circular Fashion Packaging – The Oceans Canvas Project. Discover the innovation at Packaging Première.

The idea is to combine a creative and original design with a focus on the circular sustainability, not only related to the choice of a recycled and green material but also to its reusable function.

To achieve this goal the company started a new collaboration that talks about environmental and social sustainability, in support of local activities that respect and especially practice them.

The material chosen for the project is Ocean Canvas, produced by a paper mill that collaborates with Tide Ocean SA, an association that helps to clean the Southeast Asia oceans from plastic wastes. Local fishermen collect the plastic they find in the sea and transport it to Switzerland, where it is compressed into granules and made into yarn.

The used finished fabric is composed by 100% recycled plastic, coated with water-based acrylic. For every square meter of fabric, 0.5l bottles are recycled; while 1% of the turnover is donated to water conservation projects.

Composition:

Base: 55% Recycled PET (from PET recovered from the oceans) 45% post-consumer R-PET

Coating: 100% Water-based acrylic coating

Environmental information:

  • PCW, contains 74% post-consumer recycled material.
  • REACH Regulation Compliance
  • CPSIA Compliance
  • It doesn’t contain any products or derivatives from animals
  • The supply chain used in the OCEAN CANVAS production undertakes to follow the business procedures in reference to UN Global Compact

CONSTRUCTION AND CIRCULARITY

The Ocean canvas has been used for the construction of a shopping bag designed for retail or e-commerce and for a rigid and foldable box for glasses. Same material in two different pack versions.

Both are resistant and therefore reusable items, original and design objects that integrate the accessories’ in store purchase, but also become a nice gadget for the final customer.

The design of these proposals has been created to be innovative: we have played with new shapes and functionalities, combining eco-friendly raw materials with a base concept of circularity: recycled materials that would pollute the oceans water are collected and get a new life, without going back to being wastes, but being always reusable accessories and examples of an important social message.
